ipfilter in zones

Can you configure and use ipfilter in non-global zones, or does filtering have to happen in the global zone?  If you can do it in non-global zones, can someone give me help/examples for configuring in non-global zones?  I can't seem to get ipfilters to start in a non-global zone.  Thanks!
