Shared psoft home

We are upgrading from HCM 9.0 PT 8.49 to HCM 9.2 PT 8.53
In our current environment we have a psoft home on the app and web servers which make patching extremely slow since it pushing it to multiple servers.
So I have heard that you can patch the psoft home on the file server only and after patching is done you push the psoft home manually to the other servers.
Question
1. Can someone confirm that patching to multiple servers is still an issue in HCM 9.2 with PT 8.53?
2. For new installation of HCM 9.2 we are thinking of putting the psoft home on the file server and sharing it to other servers (app and web). Are there known issue with Peoplesoft of sharing the psoft home and drawback of using this method?
