Can Final Test MTP take place on production server?

We are in the process of upgrading from Financials 8.8 to 9.1 and we're getting ready to begin our Final TEST MTP pass and would like to do it on the same server as production in order to have the identical environment as our Final MTP.  Is there a way this can be done without messing up Production?  Can a separate PS_Home be created on the same server, or???
