Rman recovery at a data guard standby site

Hello,

I am testing an rman recovery scenerio.  I am trying to recover to a data guard stand by site under the condition that the primary site is not available due to a severe hardware error.  I have pulled the rman files back from the offsite service and I wanted to log into the standby instance.  I am getting these messages.

sqlplus /nolog

    conn / as sysdba

    Connected to an idle instance.

    startup

    ORACLE instance started.

    Total System Global Area 4.0461E+11 bytes

    Fixed Size                  2280024 bytes

    Variable Size            4.4023E+10 bytes

    Database Buffers         3.6024E+11 bytes

    Redo Buffers              340443136 bytes

    Database mounted.

ORA-10458: standby database requires recovery
