How to keep modal dialog box open when URL content type is changed.

Hi

I have created custom link in the universal navigation header. Upon clicking on that will open a modeless dialog box(similar to chat box) in the bottom right corner. But whenever content type is changed in the URL get (navigation from Home page to component or vice versa) or when page is refreshed this modeless dialog box getting closed automatically. I need this dialog box should open until I closed it manually. Please help on this.
