Applying and Releasing Holds through Workflow

Hi Gurus,

In Order Management we have some setups to apply or release holds. The problem is in the front end there will be a Note window appearing for each and every line when hold is applied.

To overcome this we want to apply holds in the background. So, we intend to place hold as soon as the WF starts and once the WF progresses to shipping stage we will release holds in background.

So, I would like to know can we apply and release holds through workflow rather than front end setups. Thanks in Advance.
