PeopleSoft 9.2 AVG vs. AVGMN

in PeopleTools and Lifecycle Management - PSFT (MOSC)

What is the difference in AVG and AVGMN rate handling/processing in PeopleSoft 9.2?  We are re-implementing from 8.9 to 9.2 and this came up from our Multicurrency contractor.  We have always used AVGMN, but can't really explain why.
