How often is the minimum PeopleTools version to use PUM subject to change?

My understanding is that currently PT 8.53.14 is required to use PUM.  Were are working to upgrade PeopleTools from 8.49 and were planning to upgrade to PT 8.53.  Will PT 8.54 be required to use PUM in the foreseeable future? 

Any advise would be appreciated.  Thanks!
