PT 8.53 Issues when showing PS page in external iframe

We are currently in the process of upgrading our HCM 9.1 from PeopleTools 8.50 to  PT 8.53.  The issue I am having is with displaying a page on an external Portal using an iframe.  We have PeopleCode on a button that shows additional content and when it is clicked the content shows but I get the spinning wheel that will never go away.  This is causing additional functionality on the page to stop working.

Has anybody else had this issue and what was done to fix it?
