What are the impacts of deleting Old User profiles in Peoplesoft? The OPRIDS have left the company

What are the impacts of deleting the OPRID/User Profile from peoplesoft, when the person is no longer with the compnay? does it affect, old worklist items etc? should we deactive the User profile instead of deleting it? Any help in trying to analyze the impact of "Account lock out" Vs. Delete is greatly appreciated.
