Fit/gap analysis for two step app upgrade - once or twice?

We are planning on FSCM 8.4 to 9.2 two step upgrade with 9.0 as midpoint.. We want to know if we can perform fit/gap analysis only once considering 9.2 features only, instead of twice (once for each release – 9.0 and 9.2) . If yes, what will be the precautions to take or things to remember?
