Use of % in layout definition with PT 8.53.12

We have recently upgraded to PeopleTools 8.53.12 and our users are now working with Excel 2010 or Excel 2013.

Recently a user was trying to run an nVision layout that he's used for several years, and as soon as he tried to run Report Request (in Client), nVision would encounter a problem and close.

I found that the problem was a column where the layout definition was using a % (i.e. E5*50%). Once we removed the % sign and instead used .50 the report ran with no issue. One of the messages we received is "Designer failed to connect to PS/nVision". The next message after clicking OK on that message says that there is an ODBC connection missing. This message is not correct, I verified that we have the correct ODBC data sources and we are able to run other layouts. Makes me think that something in the PT 8.53 code to certify with
