PeopleSoft Application Upgrade

Hello,

Wanted to check on applying the latest PUM image during the Application upgrade process.

1) We are upgrading PeopleSoft FSCM 8.9/PT 8.52 to 9.2/PT8.53 followed by PeopleTools Upgrade 8.54
2) Last Year (Aug 2014) we created the Initial Pass using the 9.2 upgrade template with the PUM image 5
3) Now the latest PUM image for FSCM 9.2 application is version 11
4) Our go-live is schedule to happen in October 2015

Question,
1) Is it a supported activity or best practice to go with the latest PUM image during the middle of upgrade?
2) Please suggest the best practice on when to apply the PUM image
