Restricting ICMP Requests

Hi everyone,

 

I have read several threads now concerning Pings as I am am considering to enable pinging. But I have some questions left, that the documentation or the forum did not tell me.

 

  • In how far can ICMP request be restricted? E.g. limiting a maximum number of answered echo requests or dropping any other ICMP request other than echo requests?
  • Can an attacker fill my entire pipe with echo requests, thus blocking a large bandwidth with continuous pinging? Or at least temporarily block large amounts of bandwidth? What mechanisms will the SD take to protect itself?
