Ping the utility addresses

In a HA cluster (NN-4500) is it possible to ping the 2 utility addresses ? 
I try to add the pri-utility-address and the sec-utility-address in the hip and icmp addresses list but an error is generated by the system.

What is the purpose of the utility addresses ?
