Reapplying customization as upgrade time.

I love a simple customization that makes life a little easier as much as the next developer, but that being said, would you allow your company to keep these record customizations at upgrade time (defaults on date fields changed from %date to a constant date in 1957)? 

My inclination is to petition leadership to allow me to remove them and educate them that, while these are small and several others like them, customizations add up to cost.
