Unable to send unicode text via sendmail

Hi,

We have a client who's on peopletools 8.49 and application version 8.9.I am trying to incude some chinese text in an email via sendmail functionality but it still seems to be sending junk as shown in the attached snapshot.

Here below is the peoplecode I have used in my AE:

I am simply passing the translate Chinese long name for this field EMPL_STATUS and sending it across in the text.

Please let me know if it's possible to send unicode text in PeopleTools 8.49.

Also I cannot hard code simplefied chinese text in the email text.The editor doesn't seem to accept it.It shows junk characters.Is there a workaround for the same ??
