Has anyone used PTEM_CONFIG? Any gotcha's or suggestions?

I am on PT8.54.11 and have started looking at this utility.    I am trying to run it from the command line but getting mixed results, so would like to know if anyone else has used this successfully and what types of issues they may have encountered.
