DNS Lookups by WebLogic/Tuxedo (JOLT)

We recently experienced service degradation on one of three DNS servers. The incident caused a suprising amount problems particularly with communication between WebLogic and Tuxedo - we have the web and application tiers physically separated. Part of the major incident review is to identify any settings in either WebLogic, Tuxedo or PIA that might mitigate against future issues with DNS.

Specifically, the following questions are of interest:

a) Under what circumstances does WebLogic / Tux / PIA generate a DNS lookup?

b) Are there any settings available that can cause the system to rely more heavily on locally cached name tables?

Our setup is Campus 9.0.0.36 on PT 8.53.06 with WebLogic 11gR2.
