How to manage applying updates to decoupled PS Homes during HCM 9.0 to 9.2 upgrade?

We are in the process of HCM 9.0 to 9.2 and PT 8.53 to 8.54 upgrade. We are using Image 9 for the CA job. We are pulling down some updates from image 13 to apply to the base image 9. How do we manage the image version in the decoupled PS Homes? Do we need to keep the source environment at image 9?
