Does Peopletools 8.51 LDAP connection used for password verification support SHA-256 in SSL mode?

Our company is migrating all SSL connections to SHA-256 and we currently connect to LDAP via SSL currently. When the LDAP team changes to SHA-256 vs SHA-1 will this connection still work. my thought is yes. Peopletools 8.51 uses Java 1.6 which does support a SHA-256 certificate.
