Can I set PI up in Host-Only mode?

Hi, all,

I am trying to set up the VirtualBox. My question is that does the PI have to have access to the outside world? Or I can set it up as Host-Only mode to complete the upgrade. My change assistant is on the host, so I am thinking that as long as my host can access the guest OS, I should be good. Is my understanding correct here?
