BI Publisher AP Check issue - FSCM 9.2

I'm trying to create a custom template for 9.2 implementation of AP Checks.  I've followed instructions in a post on the HEUG (https://www.heug.org/p/fo/st/thread=103545) forum for placing the MICR line in the footer of the template, in order to have proper and consistent MICR positioning.  However, placing the MICR in the Word Footer means that you need to add @section to the two for-each-group Repeating Groups at the beginning of the document.  If you do not do that, the check number in the MICR line does not increment with a break in the Reference field.
