Encryption in HCM 9.2

While playing around in HCM 9.2 Demo Database, found that there is a menu "Encryption" under PeopleTools->Security->Encryption. What is use of this? Going through PeopleBook didn't help much.

I was wondering if this can be used to encrypt PII data like SSN etc.
