Query runs quickly in SQL Management Studio but in PIA hangs then crashes.

We have a query that hangs in PIA and causes the users session to crash.  When I copy the SQL out of query manager and run it in SQL Server Management Studio the query completes in 1 second.   Has anyone had any experience with this sort of issue?  Are there any settings I should review in App Server config, or any other system setting that might come into play?. 


We have restarted, and cleared cache on everything in troubleshooting, that has not corrected the problem.
