Tuxedo application server: Identifier for MASTER must be <= 30 characters in length

Has anyone come up with a workaround for this that doesn't involve changing the hostname at the OS level?  Error message is CMDTUX_CAT:70: ERROR: Identifier for MASTER must be <= 30 characters in length

Doc ID 1150913.1 states the obvious but we would rather not have to rebuild our host with a new name.  That doc was updated in 2013 so maybe something has changed since then?
