What problems can occur with out of sync PeopleTools versions?

We have PeopleSoft FSCM and PeopleSoft HCM installed separately. We update HCM more often than we do FSCM. If we should happen to jump to a newer Tools version on HCM, how might that have a negative impact on our integration between PS HCM and PS FSCM.
