Do I need Samba to use naitive OS install of PUM on Windows virtual server?

I have installed the native OS for FSCM PUM, but I am not sure how I should connect to the 4 tier. Do I need to define that somewhere? The install docs seem unclear. I am installing it on a virtual Windows 2012 R2 server and we don't allow the use of Samba.
