Unposting a post and reverse journal when reversal is in future period

I have an April journal with a May reversal that needs to be unposted. The April journal is posted and the May reversal is in valid status since May isn't open yet. When I unposted in our test environment, it gave the May journal a Delete status. Is that considered a logical delete and will it always be there on the journal header and line table? Am I better off waiting until May before unposting this post and reverse journal? We are on Release 9.2 Image 10 and do not have the logical delete feature turned on.
