Active Data Guard Standby Database Setup

We have Active Data Guard (ADG) up and running and replicating our PS HCM 9.1/PT 8.52 database onto the standby. 

For PT 8.52, if we only update our psappsrv.cfg file as indicated  below, and not setup the secondary access ID, remote synonyms, etc., will "read only" processes like PSQUERY get executed on standby database ?

Asked in another way, do we only have to configure the secondary access ID, remote synonyms, etc. for "mostly read only" processes/components to executed on standby database?  

We're trying to take an incremental approach to using the standby database.
