Windows 12c 32-bit Instant Client ODBC – initial access slow

Hi,

 

We have two database versions running on different Windows servers – 11.2.0.3.0 SE and 12.1.0.2.0 SE2. I have been accessing them from my PC using an 11.2 Instant Client that was installed using OUI from 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.3) Patch Set 2 for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit).

 

I decided to switch my PC to the 12c Instant Client using the following procedure:

 

  1. Downloaded the following Instant Client for Windows (32-bit) files from OTN:

    instantclient-basic-nt-12.1.0.2.0.zip

    instantclient-odbc-nt-12.1.0.2.0.zip

    instantclient-sqlplus-nt-12.1.0.2.0.zip

  2. Extracted the about zip files to C:\Oracle which gave me the C:\Oracle\instantclient_12_1 folder.
  3. Ran the odbc_install script which displayed – “Oracle ODBC Driver is installed successfully”.
