Upgrade PeopleSoft SQL Server DB from 2008 to 2014

Hi All,

     I appreciate if you could help, answer this question

Current Systems: 8.53.15 PeopleTools,  Application: 9.0 Financials, SQL Server 2008, OS: Windows 2008 for All Servers.

Concern: SQL Server 2008 supports end some time next year.

we wanted (plans underway to upgrade Application in near future), but for now, we wanted to upgrade to SQL Server Latest Database ( we identify with current Peopletools we are in, we may upgrade our OS to 2008 R2 - Supported for SQL Server DB 2014 for Peopletools 8.53).

Since we have our Application server, Batch, web server (PeopleSoft) on Windows 2008 Servers.

Question 1: Can we just have Windows 2008 R2 for Latest SQL Server 2014 DB upgraded?  with other Servers (Application, Batch , Web Server) still on Windows 2008 OS for now?
