Odd issues with nVision output after converting to Excel 2013 and upgrading PeopleTools 8.49 to 8.54

Does anyone have tips or suggestions on troubleshooting some odd issues in nVision instances, following PeopleTools upgrade from 8.49 to 8.54 (and after converting Excel 2007 layouts to Excel 2013)? For about half of our layouts tested so far, strange issues appear in the output when running through PIA (browser) -- but not when running through client (2-tier).
Examples:
- Formats for nPloded columns are being copied from column A (as usual) in client runs, but from the column to the left of the column with nPlosion in PIA runs;
- named cell "FiscalYear4", holding nVision variable FY4, is changed to garbled text string in formulas;
