HMTF_TR_OA Transform process causes schema validation failure

We are using the HMTF_TR_OA Transformation Process and Transformation Map to convert IB Messages between Versions.   We are finding that for Date fields, if field is not present in original version, it is adding blank date elements during the transform to the new message version.  This causes schema validation failures (Date fields/elements cannot be blank) if we run it thought schema validation.

Has anybody dealt with this?   Is there something we can do within the Transformation Map to prevent empty date elements/fields from being added to the message?

We are HCM 9.1 MP 9 on Tools 8.53.19.  I understand the HMTF_TR_OA process changes sometime after the MP9 release, but upgrading is currently not an option.
