What is the impact of changing work item details (e.g waits) on Advanced collection strategies alrea

Our client is looking to change the waits (post execution) on some work items. Would these changes come into effect for all  existing delinquents that had previously had the associated strategy assigned at the very next run of the AC batch or would it only apply to newly created delinquent/strategy associations?
