How to query an external database from within PeopleSoft?

Hello everyone

We would like to run queries from within PeopleSoft against a database that resides on a server external from our PeopleSoft environment.  Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this or the best way to do this?  We are open to using peoplecode or PS queries.  Just need a way to reach that external data.
