ses search test page

I set up SES with PTPORTALREGISTRY deployed/crawled and went to the Search Test Page. I entered DU_ and got 600+ entries. I entered a new search text value and got 0 results. I re-entered DU_ and got 0 results. Can anyone explain why all subsequent searches from the Search Test Page find 0 results until the Source is re-deployed/re-crawled?

Thanks in advance for any help provided.
