Documents of Record - Where are documents stored before approval

We are implementing Documents of Record and need to perform a check on the record being created before it has been approved.

We can find all the data fields via the HR_API_TRANSACTIONS; HR_API_TRANSACTION_STEPS & HR_API_TRANSACTION_VALUES, but we cannot find any details related to the attached document associated with this record.

Once it is approved we can find the details. We need the information prior to approval.

Any ideas?
