Deleting Attributes Already in Use

I have accidentally deleted a custom attribute that is currently in use by tasks in templates and schedules. The system did not error out when I deleted it and when I go to recreate the custom attribute, it says that the attribute already exists yet it is not coming up on the list of custom attributes. When I click the task within the template or schedule, the attribute DOES appear. How do I recreate the attribute entry within Manage>Attributes?  I am using version 11.2.4.0.79
