Can notes entered in universal work queue be edited?

We are entering notes on delinquencies in the collectors work queue and would like the ability to update an existing note rather than entering a new note each time.  Users would like to update an existing note entered either by another nor themselves.  Is there a profile option or other configuration that would allow the updating of Notes?
