Collectors are not setup as resources in R12

In 11i we had collectors setup - not as employees or resources. Now in R12 ar_collectors table has 2 more columns added - resource_id and resource_type. Can we avoid to set them as employees/resources in R12? What are the consequencies? We only using collector info to put a collector name an the bottom of a dunning letter...
