How to troubleshoot when SES Mid-Tier fails to start in VirtualBox?

I am running VirtualBox 5.1.14 and have just downloaded the PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 PUM21 P.I. from MOS.

When I start the PeopleSoft appliance in virtualbox the steps to start the SES Mid-Tier Admin server and SES Mid-Tier server fail.  I am not technical enough to know where to go look for the logs or how to determine what the issue is so I need a little help.

Can anyone give me any pointers as to how to go about this troubleshooting?
