Is Asset Management Module still required to be in the Default Ledger Group?

Back when we were on 9.0 we tried to move the AM module out of our Default Ledger group and into a new ledger group on it's own.  The reason for this, was to allow the ability to maintain the monthly closing of our General Ledger but allow the Asset Management calendar to remain open during the fiscal year. 

Has this changed at all, or is AM still required to be a part of the Default ledger group?
