Alter/Edit scripts during updates

We recently completed upgrade to Campus Solutions 9.2 and working on our first update from PUM Image 3 to Image 4.  My previous installation procedures(for bundles) indicated that prior to starting the bundle update to create and execute Alter/Edits scripts for all tables.  Does anyone else do this?   We currently do this before and after updates and I am trying to determine if necessary or not.
