Can we replace AD with IDM

We are thinking of implementing IDAM solution at enterprise level. We want to handle everything from IDM (from employee creation till employee exit).

our question is

1. can we replace AD completely with IDM. We are planning to decommissioned AD and move to IDM.

2. window login can be handle from IDM (something similar to Active Directory), Is there any standard document available on how we can integrate windows login using user id present in IDM.
