HCM application Upgrade 9.1 to 9.2

We are embarking on upgrade project for HCM application from 9.1 to 9.2 and Tools upgrading from 8.54 to 8.55. In one of the PeopleSoft forum, I heard that PUM Upgrade Image can not used as the Source for upgrade of non unicode database. We are analyzing the upgrade process and trying to understand all nitty-gritty of the upgrade which can help us to start and complete upgrade efficiently.  With regard to upgrade process, is their any document or link available which can confirm that upgrade image could not be use for the non unicode database upgrade.
