process instance number increasing rapidly

Hi ,

Suddenly the process instance number is rapidly increaing.

Every minute the process instance number is increased by 4. we are not sure why this is happening suddenly.

IS there any setting to be changed to stop the process instance from increasing.

We are not running any process. the number is increasing by itself.

If the scheduler is down the number is not increasing. when the UNIX or NT server is up the count starts increasing.
