Upgrading PT 8.53 to 8.56 verifying to not run converting data type

I'm doing a peopletools only upgrade on a database that is HR 9.1 from 8.53 to 8.56. I just want to verify that I shouldn't be running the converting database data types steps, running the PSORADataTypesConversion.bat.  That's what the documentation states but I'm confused as to why it shouldn't be run.
