8.56 Change assistant step properties Apply type Subsequent Pass

Could anyone tell me what the apply type of Subsequent Pass is for on the 8.56 change assistant step properties? I can't find any documentation on it. Is it for any MTP after the first one?

I am doing a 9.1/9.2 upgrade MTP and would like to remove some tasks for the next round. Would I use 'subsequent pass'?  Also if I change the apply type, how does that get saved so that the task won't show up the next time?
