Worklist - Classic vs Fluid?

For the last 10 years, we've been using the classic worklist component (WORKLIST) for 100+ custom workflow approval events (5 million rows in PSWORKLIST).

Now we are starting to look at AWE.  I see the AWE transactions write a row to the classic worklist table (PSWORKLIST) but also have separate AWE-specific worklist tables. So I started looking at the fluid/mobile approvals (component EOAWMA_MAIN_FL) and discovered it displays data from only the AWE-specific worklist tables (no data from PSWORKLIST).  Also, I discovered that PS has delivered AWE transactions that are not configured for fluid/mobile approval (they display only in the classic worklist component).
